About Corrections Victoria

Corrections Victoria operates within the Department of Justice and is responsible for overseeing the management of the state’s prisons and community correctional services locations.

Corrections Victoria develops and implements policies, programs and services that ensure the safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.

Corrections Victoria oversees the management of up to 60 community correctional services locations across Victoria and is responsible for overseeing 11 public prisons and one transitional centre. These prisons are located across the state in both regional and metropolitan areas and consist of minimum, medium and maximum-security facilities.
